LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 2 Nova Southeastern Sharks Women’s Tennis Team continued their run through the ITA South Regional Championships. Natalie Espinal and Freya Davies will represent the Sharks in the finals of the doubles portion of the competition and Lexie Weir advanced to the championship match in the singles competition.
DOUBLES
Natalie Espinal and Freya Davies handled Elyangelica Alas and Fernanda Cota (Mississippi College), beating the duo 8-4 in the quarterfinals. The Sharks top tandem also defeated Kristen Younes and Salma Djoubri (Lynn) 8-4, advancing to the tournament finals.
Lexie Weir and Lian Benedejcic defeated Luzia Obermeier and Lavinia Lacellotti (Saint Leo) 8-3 in their quarterfinal match, but fell in the semifinal round.
SINGLES
Natalie Espinal beat Deniza Marcinkevica (Lynn) [6-0, 6-3] in the quarterfinals.
A pair of Sharks faced off in the semifinals of singles competition, as Espinal and Weir faced off against each other. Weir earned the victory and advanced to the finals.
No.2 Nova Southeastern has the opportunity to sweep the championships at the ITA South Regionals on Monday, September 25th. Espinal and Davies match up against Greta Schieroni and Deniza Marcinkevica (Lynn), while Lexie Weir faces off against Salma Djoubri (Lynn).
