MELBOURNE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University swimmer Emily Trieschmann has been named the 2023-24 Sunshine State Conference Female Athlete of the Year, presented by S3 Design. Trieschmann, a winner of five individual national titles in 2023-24, ended the season repeating as the CSCAA National Swimmer of the Year and the Sunshine State Conference Swimmer of the Year.
The award is voted on by Athletic Directors, Senior Woman Administrators, Athletic Communication Directors, and Faculty Athletic Representatives from each of the 11 SSC member institutions.
The Lake Worth, Florida junior made her biggest impact in 2023-24 by winning the 200 Free, 500 Free, 1000 Free, and 1650 Free individual titles at the 2024 NCAA Division II National Championship. Additionally, she led NSU’s 800 Free Relay to the top podium spot. Her incredible individual performances vaulted the Sharks program to a second consecutive national title.
Trieschmann was as fast as she’s ever been in the pool, setting NCAA Division II records in the 1000 Free record (9:38.98) and leading the 800 Free Relay team in a record-breaking performance (7:08.50). For her performances at the national meet, she was named a CSCAA All-American in the 200 Free, 500 Free, 1000 Free, 1650 Free, 400 Free Relay, 800 Free Relay, and 400 Medley Relay.
Head Men’s and Women’s Swimming Coach Ben Hewitt has coached Trieschmann for the past two seasons and has seen first-hand the success she has had in the pool. “Emily’s career has been remarkable. A determined and focused student-athlete, she set out to be the best version of herself in and out of the water,” said Hewitt. “She’s put together a long list of accomplishments and shocking performances in her time here. I’m proud of Emily and grateful I’ve had the opportunity to work with her. She is worthy of this honor and has elevated our program to unprecedented heights.”
Over the last two years, Treischmann has etched her name in the annals of SSC swimming history with her extraordinary achievements. She has registered 10 NCAA Division II Individual National Championships, 12 SSC Individual Championships, and 14 CSCAA All-America awards. She owns two NCAA D2 records, five SSC overall records, and four SSC meet records. She’s a two-time NCAA and SSC team champion, SSC Swimmer of the Meet, and D2 Honda Athlete of the Year finalist.
Trieschmann remains the third Nova Southeastern student-athlete and the first swimmer to be honored as SSC Female Athlete of the Year, alongside NSU Athletics Hall of Fame members Abbey Gittings (Women’s Golf/2011-12) and Sandra Changkija (Women’s Golf/2009-10 & 2010-11). She is the fourth student-athlete to win the Female Athlete of the Year twice since the award was established in 1987-882.
