Women’s Golf – #7 Sharks in fifth place at DBU Classic

DENTON, TX. – The seventh-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks Women’s Golf team began their 2024 season at the DBU Classic on Sunday morning. After the first round of play, NSU (+2/290) is in sole possession of fifth place, while Haruka Muta (T8/-1/71) and Mei Chen (T16/E/72) rank inside the top-20 for the Sharks.

How it Happened
  • Haruka Muta began the tournament with a birdie and followed a bogey with three consecutive pars. Muta added an eagle on the eighth hole and closed the front-nine at one over. After the turn, Muta recorded back-to-back pars before sinking four more birdies and ended the day at one-under. 
  • Mei Chan played exceptionally well to begin the tournament. Chan tallied pars on five-of-six holes and added a birdie on hole two. Chan finished the front-nine at an even-par and finished the afternoon with a nearly bogey-free back-nine, adding another birdie, before closing the day at an even-par. 
  • Ida Lundh, making her NSU debut, parred five-of-six holes to begin the day. Lundh added birdies on two of the final three holes on the front-nine, finishing the first nine holes at an even par. Lundh added her third birdie of the round on the tenth hole and followed with four consecutive pars and ended the day with two more, finishing the round at one-over.
  • After beginning the day with a bogey, Maria Torres – also making her Sharks debut – parred three consecutive holes and added a birdie. Torres tallied eight straight pars. Torres finished the first round at two-over. 
  • Rosanna Halls, the third Sharks making her debut at the DBU Classic, tallied six pars across the front-nine to start the day. Halls closed out the round at eight-over.
