Women’s Basketball – Freeland-Curry steps down as NSU Women’s Basketball Head Coach

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. – Nova Southeastern extends its gratitude to Head Women’s Basketball Coach LeAnn Freeland-Curry, who has accepted the Head Women’s Basketball Coach position at Florida Atlantic University. Freeland-Curry has led the Sharks for 13 seasons, amassing 274 wins at NSU.

“We want to thank Coach LeAnn Freeland-Curry for her dedication and contributions to Nova Southeastern University’s women’s basketball over the past 14 years,” stated Interim Director of Athletics Ryan Romero. “Her leadership has played a significant role in the program’s success, and we appreciate the impact she has had on our student-athletes. We wish her all the best in this next chapter at FAU.”

Freeland-Curry has played a vital role in the Sharks’ success over the last 14 years, leading NSU to four NCAA Elite Eight appearances, a feat that ties two other NCAA Division II programs for the most Elite Eight appearances in the last decade. She has also garnered three Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year honors, along with four SSC Regular Season titles (2012-13, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2023-24) and two SSC Tournament titles (2013-14, 2014-15).

During her tenure, Freeland-Curry has completely revitalized the Nova Southeastern Women’s Basketball program, cementing herself as the greatest coach in program history. She coached countless All-SSC members, eight All-Americans, and two conference Players of the Year.

“With sincere gratitude, I want to thank all of the NSU players, assistant coaches, and administrators who have helped us build a championship program over the last fourteen seasons,” said Freeland-Curry. “We had a lot of great times together, and I will cherish our friendships and memories forever. Specifically, I want to thank former Director of Athletics Michael Mominey and Chancellor Ferrero for believing in my vision and for the opportunity to take over the NSU women’s basketball program in 2011. I’m proud to leave the program in a better place than when I arrived, and I will always be cheering for NSU Athletics!”

Freeland-Curry will take over the reins at FAU beginning in the 2025-26 season.

Nova Southeastern Athletics will begin a national search for the next Head Women’s Basketball Coach immediately.
