DENTON, Texas – No. 8 Wichita State defeated No. 9 seed South Florida, 73-68, in the quarterfinals of the 2025 American Men’s Basketball Championship Thursday, March 13 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
With the win, the Shockers will face No. 1 seed Memphis in the quarterfinals on Friday, March 14 at 1 p.m. ET/noon CT on ESPN2 and ESPN+.
The Shockers (19-13) jumped out to a 17-6 lead 6:35 into the game, holding the Bulls (13-19) to 3-of-11 shooting to start the game.
Wichita State’s largest lead of the game was 16 with 16:47 left in the second half. The Bulls fought back and pulled within three at 64-61 with 3:12 left, but Bijan Cortes converted a 3-point play and the Shockers did not allow South Florida back to within one possession.
Corey Washington (21 points) and Cortes (20) combined for 41 points to lead the Shockers. Jayden Reid led the Bulls with 19 points.
