WGOLF | Gators Finish Season at East Lansing Regional

Maisie Filler led Florida with a 54-hole score of 213 (-3) and 10th place finish.

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Florida women’s golf team concluded the 2023-24 season at the East Lansing Regional on Wednesday, finishing in seventh.

The Gators had a team score of 871 (+7) with a final round of 295 (+7), missing the top-5 cut. USC won the regional finishing 9-under as the next four teams that earned bids to the NCAA National Championship were Oklahoma State (-5), host Michigan State (-4), Northwestern (-3) and Pepperdine (-1).

Florida started off strong in the final round and was 7-under through the first six holes as Maisie Filler’s birdie on hole 15 (par4, 363) put the Gators on top of the leaderboard in a tie with USC at 7-under. Filler carded her final round for the Orange and Blue with a 3-under 69 for a 54-hole score of 3-under 213. She finished solo 10th for her sixth top-10 of the season along with her three individual titles and an All-SEC First-Team selection.

UF then ran into some trouble to close the turn, dropping back to 2-under and one shot above the cut line at the turn before eventually falling below midway through the front nine (Florida teed off the back nine to start).

Freshman and Highland, Mich. native, Sophie Stevens turned in a strong final round of 2-under 70. After subbing in for the final two rounds, both of them were par or better; 72-70. She began the day with a birdie on the first hole and later made eagle on the par5 (460) 13th.

Paula Francisco had a final round of 76 (+4) followed by a pair of 80s (+8) from Inès Archer and Jackie Lucena.

Florida ended the regular-season finishing top-7 in all nine tournaments, including three straight tournament victories, seven top-5 and six top-3 finishes. UF also ended with a 2-1 match play record with victories over Pepperdine and UCLA.

Head Coach Emily Glaser:
“Today was a really disappointing end to a season with many bright spots. I feel for our seniors and specifically Maisie Filler who had an outstanding year for us and led us this week with another top 10 finish and a big round today when it mattered most. I am also really grateful for our freshmen. We asked a lot of them this year and they worked harder and invested more than any freshman class I have ever had. I’m thankful that they are Florida Gators.”
