BIRMINGHAM – After recording a pair of double-doubles in UAB’s wins over Chattanooga and Miles, Zakyia Weathersby has been named Conference USA Player of the Week.
Weathersby averaged 21.8 points per game, 15.0 rebounds per game while shooting 78.3%.
In the Blazers’ 67-52 victory over Chattanooga on Nov. 29, Weathersby tied her season-highs with 28 points and 18 rebounds. She made 11-of-13 field goal attempts and had three blocks.
On Dec. 5, Weathersby scored 15 points and pulled down 15 rebounds in UAB’s 72-52 win over Miles. She was 7-of 10 from the field and added a pair of blocks.
This is Weathersby’s second career C-USA weekly honor. She was player of the week on Feb. 22, 2021.
“Kyia has performed like a true veteran player and has been extremely consistent for us with her scoring and rebounding,” said head coach Randy Norton. “I still believe she will continue to work hard on her game with the best yet to come for her.”
UAB (5-2) travels to crosstown rival Samford on Dec. 12. The next home game is Dec. 15 against Arkansas Pine Bluff.

David Crane will host Blazer Sportsline every Tuesday beginning Dec. 28. The show takes place live from Iron City Grill in downtown Birmingham and features men’s basketball head coach Andy Kennedy and women’s basketball head coach Randy Norton.
