HOUSTON – The Florida Atlantic Owls fell in a 72-39 decision against the Rice Owls in Houston on Tuesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Owls opened the contest on an 8-2 run, with Jada Moore scoring six of the Owls’ first eight points. Moore hit another jumper in the paint to make it 10-5 Owls, however, Rice closed the first on a 9-0 run to lead 14-10 after the first.
Florida Atlantic kept things within four through the 5:57-minute mark after a layup from TT, 18-14, however, the Owls just couldn’t get another field goal to fall as Rice closed the half on a 12-2 run to hold a 30-16 lead at the break.
A Mya Perry triple and a free throw from Maria Myklebust opened the second half on a 4-0 Florida Atlantic run, 30-20, but Rice answered back with a 13-2 run to extend its lead to 43-22 with 2:39 to go in the third. Florida Atlantic went on a 7-3 run to cut the deficit to 46-29, but a last-second three from Rice made it 49-29 entering the final 10 minutes of play.
The Owls continued to battle in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough as Rice eventually took the contest, 72-39.
NOTES AND TEAM STATS
- Jada Moore and Mya Perry led the way for the Owls.
- Moore scored a team-leading 12 points, shooting 33 percent (4-of-12) from the floor and going a perfect 100 percent (4-of-4) at the line. She also added five boards, an assist, a steal, and a block.
- Perry finished with 10 points, shooting 33 percent from 3-point range, and adding two boards.
- Alana Rouser tallied a team-best six rebounds and two blocks.
UP NEXT
The Owls wrap up their two-game road stretch on Saturday, Feb. 22 in Charlotte, N.C. against the Charlotte 49ers. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. ET inside Halton Arena.
