NEW ORLEANS – Florida Atlantic women’s basketball fell on the road in New Orleans on Wednesday, dropping a 68-52 battle against the Tulane Green Wave inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse.
The Owls fall to 9-13 on the season and 1-8 in AAC play, while Tulane moves to 13-7 and 6-3 in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Owls opened the contest with back-to-back threes from Jada Moore and Stefanie Ingram to quickly take a 6-0 lead. Tulane responded on a 7-0 run to take its first lead of the day, 7-6, at the 6:28-minute mark. Zahira Arizmendi put Florida Atlantic back in front as the Owls and Green Wave traded leads through a 12-11 Florida Atlantic lead with 4:22 to go in the first. Tulane scored five unanswered to retake the lead 16-12, but Maria Myklebust closed out the first with a three to make it a one-point ballgame heading to the second, 16-15.
Florida Atlantic opened the second on a 5-0 run after a 3-pointer from Arizmendi and a jumper from Alana Rouser to extend the lead back to four, 20-16. The Owls maintained their four-point advantage through a 22-18 lead, but Tulane connected on back-to-back threes to retake the lead 24-22. Ingram responded to bring the Owls even at 24-24 at the 7:07-minute mark, but the Owls offense started to struggle as Tulane went on a 13-0 run over the following six minutes of clock, holding a 37-24 lead with a minute to go in the second. Myklebust knocked down her second triple of the day to close out the half, bringing the Owls back within 10 at the break, 37-27.
The Owls and Green Wave battled back and forth to open the second half. Tulane held a 12-point advantage at the third quarter media timeout, 47-35, but back-to-back buckets from Ingram and Jada Moore brought the Owls back within eight, 47-39, with 2:46 to go in the third. Myklebust drained her third 3-pointer of the day to cut the Owls’ deficit to seven, 51-44, with 1:39 on the clock, but Tulane scored one more time to make it a nine-point deficit, 53-44, entering the final 10 minutes of play.
Ingram scored first in the fourth to cut the Green Wave’s lead back to seven, 53-46, but Tulane produced a 6-0 run to push its lead back out to 13, 59-46, with 6:06 to play. Ingram scored in transition to make it 59-48, but back-to-back threes from the Green Wave pushed the deficit back out to 17, 65-48, with 4:31 to go. Lovisa Asbrink Hose scored back-to-back buckets for the Owls to tack on four more for the Owls, but it was just too little too late as Tulane eventually tacked on one more three to close out the contest, 68-52.

“I was really proud of our effort. I thought we did a good job defensively getting stops that we wanted, but fatigue set in late in the game and it was just hard to pull away throughout. We will regroup and get back at it on Saturday.”
NOTES AND TEAM STATS
- Stefanie Ingram led the way for the Owls with a team-high 15 points, shooting 47 percent (7-of-15) from the field, and 1-of-6 from 3-point range, in addition to dishing out four assists and grabbing two boards.
- Jada Moore finished with a team-leading nine boards and dished out a team-high five assists.
- Ta’Ziah Jenks tallied a team-high three steals, and Alana Rouser tallied a team-high two blocks.
- The Owls outscored the Green Wave 17-16 in the third.
- Florida Atlantic also held an advantage off second-chance points, 9-4, and points off the bench, 20-12.
