Owls Drop Hard-Fought Battle at Charlotte2/22/2025 | Women’s Basketball | Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Florida Atlantic women’s basketball fought hard but came up just short 58-53 at Charlotte on Saturday inside Halton Arena. Florida Atlantic falls to 10-18 on the season and 2-13 in AAC play, while Charlotte moves to 9-17 overall and 4-11 in conference play. HOW IT HAPPENED Alana Rouser got things started for the Owls, hitting a jumper just outside the paint to give Florida Atlantic the opening lead, 2-0. Stefanie Ingram drove in the lane to keep the Owls in front 4-3, but Charlotte answered on an 8-0 run to hold an 11-4 lead at the opening media timeout. The 49ers scored four more unanswered out of the break to lead by 11, 15-4, with 2:29 to go in the first, but the Owls closed the period on a 7-2 run to close back within six, 17-11, after the first. The Owls and 49ers traded baskets as the deficit remained at six at the second-quarter media break, 21-15. Jada Moore scored back-to-back buckets to bring the Owls back within two, 21-19, with 1:22 to play in the half, but the 49ers closed the opening half on a 4-0 run to make it a six-point game at the halftime break, 25-19. Charlotte opened the second half on an 8-2 run, holding a 33-21 lead at the third-quarter media timeout. The 49ers pushed their lead to 14, leading 40-26 at the 2:57-minute mark of the third, however, the Owls got three back off a 6-3 run to close out the third, making it 43-32 with 10 minutes to play. The Owls scored on back-to-back possessions to open the fourth off a jumper from Moore and a 3-pointer from Maria Myklebust, to cut the deficit to six, 43-37, at the final media break of the contest. Charlotte scored first out of the break, but back-to-back buckets from Rouser brought the Owls within four, 45-41, with 6:02 to play. The Owls continued to battle, producing a 6-3 run, capped off by a layup from Mya Perry, to make it a one-point game with 1:11 to go. The 49ers pushed their lead back to four, 53-49, but Perry hit a triple with 26 seconds to bring the Owls back within one, forcing a Charlotte timeout. The squads traded free throws, but the Owls just couldn’t close the gap, falling 58-53. NOTES AND TEAM STATS Alana Rouser and Mya Perry led the Owls in the contest. Rouser finished with a career-high 14 points, shooting 67 percent from the field and going a perfect 100 percent (2-of-2) at the line, in addition to grabbing five boards and collecting a pair of steals. Perry finished with 12 points on the day, shooting 50 percent (5-of-10) from the field and 29 percent (2-of-7) from 3-point range. She also added two boards, a pair of assists, and a steal. Stefanie Ingram dished out a team-leading six assists and collected a career-high five steals., while Jada Moore led the Owls on the glass with a team-high six boards, and Lovisa Asbrink Hose tallied a career-high three blocks. Florida Atlantic outscored the 49ers 21-15 in the fourth period and outshot Charlotte 44 percent to 33.3 percent from the field. The Owls also held advantages in points off turnovers, 14-10, points in the paint, 22-18, and transition points, 4-2.
