DADE CITY, Fla. – Lynn University’s women’s golf team sits second after the first day of the Sunshine State Women’s Golf Championships at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club. The Fighting Knights were paced by Matilda Wahren’s one-under 71, which has her tied-third in the individual race.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lynn swung its way to a first-round score of 298, just three strokes behind leader-Nova Southeastern (295). Barry and Saint Leo (299) are right on the heels of the Blue and White, tied-third, while Tampa (300) sits closely in fifth. Florida Tech, Rollins, Florida Southern, Palm Beach Atlantic, Embry-Riddle and Eckerd round out the standings six through 11 after day one.
- Wahren, playing in the number-three slot, showed her consistency with a very clean round, making three birdies and just two bogeys on her way to 71.
- Helen Kreuzer (75) and Krissy Ortiz (76) bounced back admirably after each shooting +3 on the front-nine, posting even-par and one-over scores on the back, respectively.
- Cristina Gutierrez also did her best work after the turn, shooting even on the back to finish with a 76.
- Amber Svendsen made 10 pars on the day on her way to and 82.
BEYOND THE SCORECARD:
- All four counted-scores for the Blue and White are inside the top-13.
- Wahren sits third, two-back of leader-Kiira Riihijarvi (-3) of Tampa.
- The Blue and White ranked second in par 5 scoring average (4.85) and third in par 4 scoring average (4.4).
- Lynn made a combined 10 birdies, second-most to Saint Leo.
- Gutierrez finished the day a combined one-under on the par 3s, fourth-best in the field.
- Wahren’s two-under score on the par 5s, tied for third-most.
- Wahren has now shot the low opening round at the SSC Championships for Lynn two years in a row after posting a one-over 73 in 2018.
