BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – Florida Atlantic women’s golf (295, +7) is tied for fourth after the first round at the American Athletic Conference Championship. Tulsa (-9) leads the team competition by seven shots over second-place East Carolina. Individually, the Golden Hurricanes’ Romaine Masserey and Lovisa Gunnar are tied for the lead at -4.
Quick Hits
Freshman Nancy Cox led the Owls on day one with an opening 71 (-1) to sit just three back of the leaders.
Starting her day on the 10th hole, Cox bogeyed two of her first three holes but found her footing as she made the turn to her second nine. She birdied three straight, beginning with par-four 18th hole.
Cox would add one more birdie at the par-three eighth to tie her best round of the season.
Sophomore Charlotte Perkins balanced two birdies and two bogeys for an even-par 72. The Australian is tied for 10th.
Maddie Rathjen’s opening 74 (+2) included a birdie and an eagle at the par-five 12th hole. She is tied for 22nd.
