10/21/2024 | Women’s Volleyball BOCA RATON, Fla. – After helping lead the Owls to their two biggest wins of the season, sweeping the second-ranked Rice Owls and knocking off the conference-leading South Florida Bulls, Kaila Ru, Madison Dyer, and Victoria Hensley were recognized with American Athletic Conference player of the week honors. Ru was named AAC Offensive Player of the Week, Dyer was named AAC Defensive Player of the Week, and Hensley was named AAC Setter of the Week. The recognition marks Hensley’s second AAC Player of the Week honor and marks the first career Player of the Week award for Dyer and Ru, and the second career weekly AAC honor for Dyer after earning honorable mention recognition earlier this season. Kaila Ru was a huge part of the Owls’ success this week, earning a pair of wins over second-ranked Rice, 3-0, and conference leader South Florida, 3-1. Ru posted 19 kills, hitting an incredible .486, while also finishing second on the team in blocks with nine, including three solo blocks, and recording four digs over the Owls’ two matches. Against Rice, Ru recorded nine kills, four blocks, including one solo block, and three digs. She then finished the week with 10 kills, five blocks, including two solo blocks, and a dig in the Owls’ upset over previously unbeaten South Florida. Madison Dyer had a big weekend for the Owls, helping lead the team to a pair of upsets against Rice, 3-0, and conference leader South Florida, 3-1. Dyer led the Owls in blocks, finishing with 11 and averaging 1.57 blocks per set, while also turning in a team fourth-best 15 kills and a pair of digs. Dyer opened the week with seven kills, four blocks, and a dig against Rice, before closing out the weekend with eight kills, six blocks, including one solo, and a dig in the Owls’ huge upset over previously unbeaten South Florida.Victoria Hensley had a phenomenal week, helping power the Owls’ offense to a pair of incredible wins over second-ranked Rice, 3-0, and conference leader South Florida, 3-1. Hensley dished out 78 assists, averaging an incredible 11.14 assists per set, and added 14 digs, seven blocks, four kills, and two service aces over the Owls’ pair of matches this week. In the Owls’ sweep over Rice, Hensley recorded 32 assists, five digs, four blocks, four kills, and an ace. She then finished the week with 46 assists, powering the Owls’ offense to an incredible .319 hitting percentage, while also adding nine digs, three blocks, and an ace in the Owls’ upset win over previously unbeaten South Florida. UP NEXT The Florida Atlantic Owls will head back on the road this weekend as they head to East Carolina on Oct. 25 before finishing the weekend at Charlotte on Oct. 27.
