10/20/2024 | Women’s Volleyball | Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic Volleyball knocked off the conference-leading South Florida Bulls on Sunday, handing USF its first conference loss of the season in a dominant four-set win, 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-27, 25-14) inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena. The Owls improve to 12-8 on the season and 4-4 in AAC play, while South Florida falls to 11-8 overall and 7-1 in league play. FLORIDA ATLANTIC 3 – SOUTH FLORIDA 1 After battling through a 6-6 tie to open the contest, the Owls scored three unanswered off a kill from Valeria Rosado and back-to-back aces from Olivia Hart to spark a South Florida timeout leading by three, 9-6. Florida Atlantic continued to play aggressively, going on a 7-5 to extend their lead to five, 16-11, forcing the Bulls to call their second and last timeout of the set. South Florida then answered back, going on a 10-7 of their own to cut the Owls’ lead to two, 23-21, however, the Owls clutched out the final two points off a Bull error and a kill from Rosado to secure the 1-0 lead, 25-21. The Owls and Bulls battled back and forth through a 4-4 tie to open the second. A kill from Kaila Ru sparked a 7-2 Florida Atlantic run to put the Owls up by five, 11-6, and force a South Florida timeout. The Owls continued to pressure the Bulls, outscoring South Florida 8-5 as the Bulls called their second timeout of the set with an eight-point Florida Atlantic lead, 19-11. Out of the timeout, the Bulls attempted to rally, going on a 4-2 run to cut the Owls’ lead to six, 21-15, however, the Owls once again responded, producing a 4-2 run of their own to close out the set, 25-17, taking a two-set advantage, 2-0. The Owls continued their momentum into the third, opening the frame on a 13-8 run before the Bulls called their first timeout of the set. South Florida started chipping away at the Owls’ advantage, outscoring Florida Atlantic 9-5 to cut the Owls’ advantage to just a point, 18-17, but a kill from Katelynn Robine stifled the Bulls’ run, as the Owls battled to a 22-19 advantage. However, South Florida answered back, eventually tying up the set at 23-23. The Bulls took the 24-23 advantage, before the Owls tied the set up at 24 and 25, but back-to-back kills from the Bulls eventually closed out the set, 27-25, as the teams headed to a fourth. South Florida scored the opening point of the fourth but committed four back-to-back errors to give the Owls a 4-1 lead as they called a timeout. The Bulls eventually battled back within a point at a 9-8 Florida Atlantic lead, but the Owls went on an 8-2 run to kick their lead back out to eight, 18-10. South Florida got two back, but it was too little too late as the Owls closed the match on a 7-2 run to eventually seal the four-set victory, 25-14. STATS & NOTES Valeria Rosado, Katelynn Robine, and Kaila Ru had a phenomenal day for the Owls, all recording double-figure kills in the win. Rosado led the Owls with a team-high 15 kills, hitting .303, while also adding nine digs and a pair of blocks on the day. Robine finished with 11 kills, hitting .333, and three digs and Ru turned in 10 kills, and finishing with a match-leading .529 hitting percentage, and finished with five blocks. Victoria Hensley also had a phenomenal day, helping lead the Owls to an impressive .319 hitting percentage in the match, while also finishing with a team-high 46 assists and nine digs. Romina Cornelio finished with a team-high 10 digs, while Madison Dyer posted a match-leading seven blocks in the win. UP NEXT The Florida Atlantic Owls will head back on the road next weekend as they head to East Carolina on Oct. 25 before finishing the weekend at Charlotte on Oct. 27.
