STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 14 University of Miami volleyball team (15-4, 5-3 ACC) dropped a hard-fought battle, 3-1, to the No. 5 Stanford Cardinal (16-3, 7-1 ACC) on Sunday evening at the Maples Pavilion.

The Hurricanes came out strong, erasing an early Stanford lead with back-to-back 3-0 runs and tying the first set at 20-all before narrowly dropping it, 25-23. Miami answered in the second, earning a 7-0 run highlighted by two aces from Ariana Rodriguez to take control and outlast the Cardinal, 27-25.

Set three was a back-and-forth battle, as kills from Mushkudiani and Wilson helped Miami pull even at 18-all, but Stanford edged it 26-24. The Cardinal then hit .455 in the fourth to pull away 25-16 and close out the match.

Miami returns home to face Virginia Tech and Virginia on Oct. 24 and 26, respectively, at the Knight Sports Complex.
