USF WTEN: Bulls down Shockers in Wichita

Bulls take on Tulsa Sunday in Oklahoma

WICHITA, KAN. (March 18, 2022) – The University of South Florida women’s tennis team (5-10) downed Wichita State (6-10), 5-2, Friday in Wichita, Kan., as the Bulls began a two-match weekend road swing.

USF claimed the doubles point as the team of Grace Schumacher (Bathurst, Australia) and Margriet Timmermans (Bergen Op Zoom, Netherlands) posted a 6-2 victory on Court 2 and Wichita State, which had just five active student-athletes, forfeited on Court 3.

Wichita State forfeited on Court 6 in singles, to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead.

The Bulls dropped the opening sets in singles on Court 1, 2, 3 and 4, but got big rallies on two courts to clinch the team victory.

Wichita State went on to claim victories on Court 2 and Court 4 to put two points on the board.

The USF momentum started with Schumacher on Court 1. She took a tough tiebreaker loss in the first set, 7-6 (4-7), but came back with a vengeance ripping off 6-1 and 6-2 wins in the next two sets to win the match.

Similarly on Court 3, Laura Pellicer (Grandia, Spain) rebounded from a 6-4 loss in the first set to post 6-3 and 7-6 (7-3) wins in the next two sets and take the point and clinch the team score for USF, 4-2.

On Court 5, Timmermans wrapped up the day with a USF victory. She battled for a 7-6 tiebreaker (7-5) win in the first set and then rolled to a 6-3 victory in the second.
