Melanie Green has been assigned to the Tallahassee Regional which begins on May 9.
TAMPA (April 28, 2022) – University of South Florida sophomore Melanie Green (Medina, N.Y.) has earned at at-large bid to compete in the 2022 NCAA Women’s Golf Regionals. Green has been assigned to the Tallahassee Regional as the No. 2 individual seed.
The regional bid comes on the heels of Green being named to The American All-Conference Team for the second time in as many seasons.
“This moment is really special for me and super exciting,” Green said after viewing the selection show. “I want to thank my teammates and coaches for all their support this year, and my swing coach, Nick Semuta, for always having my best interest and always being available to me. I also need to thank Doctor Lee for all his constant support since I’ve been here at South Florida.”
Green will head to the Tallahassee Regional looking to add to her already record-breaking season. Her 19 rounds of par or better and 102 total birdies in 2021-22 are both new single-season program records. Green carries a 71.64 scoring average into the event which is also poised to become a new single-season record.
During her sophomore campaign, Green earned a top-10 finish in seven of her 10 outings, including her first collegiate win at the Trinity Forest Invitational in March where she was just one of two players to shoot even par at the event.
Green opened the 2021-22 season by carding a program record score of 205 at the USA Intercollegiate which including an opening-round score of 65 (-7) to also set a new program record for round vs. par. She helped lead South Florida to a fifth-place team finish at the AAC Championship last week by finishing sixth individually for her second straight top 10 finish at the conference championship tournament.
“This is a big day for Melanie and our program,” said head coach Erika Brennan. “We are thrilled that she gets to continue her season. We’ve played this golf course before so we know the challenge that awaits. It’s going to be a fun test of golf, and with the efforts she has put in this season, we know she’s ready.”
