Green becomes ninth Bull to eclipse 200 career birdies
LAS VEGAS, FEB. 21, 2023 – Junior Melanie Green shot a final round 69 to finish tied for fifth and lead the USF women’s golf team with her fifth top 10 finish of the 2022-23 season as the Bulls finished ninth as a team at The Show in Las Vegas, Nev.
USF fired its best round of the tournament on Tuesday with a closing 291 to post a 21-over par total of 885 in the 15-team tournament played at Spanish Trail Country Club (Par-72, 6,434 Yards). No. 6-ranked Mississippi State won the tournament firing a 9-under par total of 855 followed closely by No. 30 Pepperdine (-7, 857). USF bettered two teams ranked in the top 50 as the Bulls finished ahead of No. 47 Purdue (+25, 889) in 10th and No. 26 Kent State (+26, 890) in 11th place.
Green, who entered the tournament ranked No. 93 nationally, posted three birdies on a bogey free back nine for her final round 3-under par 69, her best round of the tournament after opening with scores of 73 and 71 on Monday. She totaled six birdies on the day, but gave back strokes on three holes on the front side. Her three-round total of 3-under par 213 was six strokes off the pace of tournament winner Myah McDonald of New Mexico who fired a 9-under par 207.
Junior Alizee Vidal shot an opening round 71 and went on to finish tied for 34th at 7-over par 223. Lauren Heinlein posted a final round 71 and finished tied for 51st at 10-over par 226.

Notable
• Melanie Green posted her second top five finish of 2022-23 and her fifth-place finish was just shy of her season-best fourth place at the Evie Odom Invitational in the fall.
• With five top 10 finishes on the year, Green now has 14 for her career.
• Green improved her USF career record total for rounds of par or better to 37, adding two more in Las Vegas.
• With 13 birdies in the tournament, Green now has 201 on her career, joining eight other Bulls to post 200 or more for their career. She is 80 shy of the USF record of 281 posted by Ashley Burke (2014-17).

The Bulls are in their sixth season under head coach Erika Brennan in 2022-23. USF is among the fastest rising programs in the country, as they climbed 75 spots in the national Golfstat rankings following Brennan’s first season in 2018-19 and have captured three tournament titles under Brennan, while setting numerous program scoring records under her leadership.
