USF WBB: South Florida Women’s Basketball Set to Face Defending National Champion UConn in Tampa

Bulls to face 12-time NCAA champion at Yuengling Center

TAMPA, Fla. – June 10, 2025 – South Florida women’s basketball is continuing to build the most challenging non-conference schedule in the nation as the Bulls announced a match-up with reigning national champion UConn on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at the Yuengling Center. Tipoff time and network designation will be announced at a later date.

Bulls head coach Jose Fernandez continues to challenge his teams with some of the toughest schedules in the nation. The match-up with the Huskies marks the third announced home game for South Florida on the 2025-26 season against a program that finished the 2024-25 campaign ranked in the top 10. South Florida previously announced home dates vs. Duke on Nov. 20 and South Carolina on Dec. 18 at Yuengling Center. The Blue Devils finished the 2024-25 season ranked No. 7 in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll while South Carolina finished ranked No. 2.

South Florida will face both teams – UConn and South Carolina – that played in the 2025 NCAA National Championship Game at Amalie Arena in Tampa last April.

The meeting between the Bulls and Huskies, the second in a home-and-home series, will be the 35th in series history and the 13th in Tampa. UConn holds 10 of the top 18 home women’s basketball attendance marks at Yuengling Center. This will be the first meeting between the Bulls and Huskies in Tampa since 2020.

UConn earned its 12th national championship with an 82-59 victory over South Carolina and finished with a record of 37-3 and the No. 1 spot in the final AP Top 25 Poll.

The Bulls concluded the 2024-25 season with a 23-11 mark and 13-4 in league action, which marked Coach Fernandez’s 14th straight 19-win season and 12th 20-win season. The program earned its fourth league title and 10th NCAA Tournament berth by winning the 2025 AAC Conference Tournament Championship, defeating Tulane, North Texas, and Rice in three consecutive days.
