USF WBB: South Florida Women’s Basketball Announces Loaded Non-Conference Slate

Tampa, Fla. – August 7, 2024 – South Florida women’s basketball head coach Jose Fernandez has announced the program’s non-conference schedule for the 2024-25 season, which includes five programs that reached the 2024 NCAA Tournament: South Carolina, Louisville, Vanderbilt, UConn, and Duke.

South Florida will jumpstart the November schedule with five of its seven matchups at home against Bethune-Cookman (Monday, Nov. 4), Mount St. Mary’s (Thursday, Nov. 7), Vanderbilt (Thursday, Nov. 14), The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (Sunday, Nov. 17), and Jacksonville (Wednesday, Nov. 20).

The Commodores finished last season with a record of 23-10 (9-7 SEC). In the 2024 NCAA Tournament, Vanderbilt bested Columbia, 72-68, in the first four, before falling to Baylor, 80-63, in the first round.

USF’s first road test of the year will be a trip to Storrs, Connecticut to face former and longtime Big East Rival UConn (Sunday, Nov. 10). The Huskies went 33-6 overall and 18-0 in Big East action last season. In its NCAA-record 23rd Final Four appearance, UConn’s season came to an end, with a slim 71-69 loss to Iowa.

The Green and Gold will also showdown against former foe Louisville (Sunday, Nov. 24) in the 2024 WBCA Showcase at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. The Cardinals concluded the 2023-24 campaign with a record of 24-10 (12-6 ACC) and their season ended in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament with a 71-69 loss to Middle Tennessee.

South Florida will then return to the Yuengling Center for three of its four December matchups with Merrimack (Thursday, Dec. 5), Northwestern State (Tuesday, Dec. 17), and Duke (Saturday, Dec. 21).

The Blue Devils concluded the previous year with a record of 22-12 (11-7 ACC). Duke topped Richmond and Ohio St. in the 2024 NCAA Tournament before falling to UConn. 53-45 in the Sweet Sixteen.

USF’s final road test of non-conference play will be against the 2024 reigning national champions, South Carolina (Sunday, Dec. 15) in Columbia, South Carolina.

The 2024 NCAA Tournament Champion Gamecocks are coming off of a perfect 38-0 season and their third NCAA Championship title. South Carolina capped off its epic run with an 85-75 victory against Iowa in the Championship game.

South Florida will also play in the 2024 Cayman Islands Classic in late November (Opponents, Game Dates & Times TBD).

In league action, every team in The AAC will play 18 league games, including six of its 12 conference opponents twice and the other six once – three at home and three on the road.

South Florida’s notable returners include Romi Levy (2023-24 AAC Co-Newcomer of the Year), Vittoria Blasigh (2023-24 AAC Freshman of the Year), and Sammi Puisis (2022-23 AAC Newcomer of the Year).
