Tampa, Fla. – Jan. 6, 2024 – South Florida women’s basketball (10-6, 3-0 AAC) heads to the Sunflower State for a showdown with Wichita St. (7-9, 1-2 AAC) at Charles Koch Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. EST and the action will stream live on ESPN+.
SETTING THE STAGE
The Bulls are on the hunt for their sixth straight victory, and their fourth consecutive victory in league play. The Shockers have won one of their last four games and look to extend their current win streak to two games.
THE SOUTH FLORIDA-WICHITA ST. SERIES
Wednesday is the 13th meeting between the two squads. South Florida holds a 9-3 all-time advantage against the Shockers. The last clash was a 69-62 Bulls win in the AAC Tournament (Mar. 10, 2024).

The Bulls are led by graduate guard Sammie Puisis (15.9 ppg.). Puisis is ranked 5th in the nation with 51 total 3-pointers made and 8th in 3FG Made Per Game (3.19 3FGM). Junior forward Carla Brito holds a team-best 7.2 rebound average. (7th in the American). Graduate guard Mama Dembele is USF’s top assister with 5.1 apg. (81 total assists ranked 21st nationally). In the latest NCAA Nitty Gritties Report, South Florida is ranked 8th NET SOS and 65th in the NET.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
Over the last four seasons, USF has gone 58-4 (.935) when scoring at least 65 points. That is tied for the seventh-best record in DI in such games over that time frame (since 2021-22). Romi Levy has recorded multiple steals off the bench in three consecutive games, the longest streak by a USF player since Shalethia Stringfield in January 2016 (also three). The last South Florida player to do it at least four straight was Jasmine Wynne in 2008-09 (four). South Florida has started 3-0 in conference play for the third time in the last five seasons (also 2022-23 and 2020-21). That is the most such starts for any AAC team over that span. Sammie Puisis is one of two DI players this season with at least 50 made threes and a 90.0 free-throw percentage. The other is Purdue Fort Wayne’s Lauren Ross. Against Temple, Carla Brito became just the second USF player in the last 25 seasons to record at least 10 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and zero turnovers in a single game. The other to do so was Courtney Williams on November 25, 2015 against Butler.
