Tampa, Fla. Dec. 15, 2023 – South Florida women’s basketball (7-3) welcomes No. 3/4 NC State (10-0) to the Yuengling Center for a showdown on Saturday, Dec. 16. Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. and the action will stream live on ESPN+.
SETTING THE STAGE
USF is looking for its seventh straight home victory of the season. For the Undefeated Wolfpack, the contest marks their first true road game of the season.
THE SOUTH FLORIDA-NC STATE SERIES
Saturday marks the third meeting between the Bulls and the Wolfpack but the first-ever clash in Tampa. NC State holds a 2-0 all-time advantage against South Florida and the series dates back to the 2020-21 season. The most recent paring was a 65-57 South Florida loss on Dec. 11, 2022.
LAST TIME OUT
Freshman guard Vittoria Blasigh put up a career-high 31 points in South Florida’s 105-75 victory against Gardner-Webb on Sunday. The triumph marked head coach Jose Fernandez‘s 450 career win and the program’s 18th 100-plus victory in program history. Senior guard Sammie Puisis started for the first time this season and contributed 21 points, a team-high two steals, a pair of rebounds, and a single assist. Sophomore guard Marina Asensio added a personal-best 16 points by shooting 5-of-6 from field goal range, with four 3-pointers. Asensio also matched a career-high seven assists on the day.
BULL LEADERS
South Florida is led by Blasigh, who leads the squad with a 21.0 scoring average. Blasigh (31 3PM) is ranked 14th nationally in total 3-pointers made. Sophomore wing Carla Brito (9.9 ppg.) leads on the glass with 7.7 rebounds per contest, which ranks fifth in the American. Redshirt senior guard Aerial Wilson dishes out a team-best 3.7 assists per contest. Wilson’s 37 total assists ranks third in the American.
POSTGAME TEDDY BEAR TOSS AND HOLIDAY SWEATERS
Bulls fans are encouraged to bring a Teddy for the postgame Teddy Bear Toss, which will be donated to a local hospital. Giveaways for the Holiday game include Ugly Sweaters for the first 1,000 fans. Even Santa will be in attendance and available for pictures at Gate A ending at the start of the game.
