Tampa, Fla. – Dec. 28, 2024 – South Florida women’s basketball (8-6, 1-0 AAC) welcomes Charlotte (5-7, 0-1 AAC) to the Yuengling Center on New Years Day. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. and the action will stream live on ESPN+.
SETTING THE STAGE
The Bulls are on the hunt for their fourth straight victory, and their first victory of the new year. The 49ers are looking to get back in the win column after losing two of their last four contests.
THE SOUTH FLORIDA-CHARLOTTE SERIES
Wednesday is the 31st meeting between the two squads. The last clash was a 66-61 overtime loss to Charlotte in Tampa, Fla. (Jan. 3, 2024).
BEST OF THE BULLS
The Bulls are led by graduate guard Sammie Puisis (15.1 ppg.) & sophomore guard Vittoria Blasigh (10.6 ppg.) Puisis is ranked 10th in the nation with 42 total 3-pointers made and 15th in 3FG Made Per Game (3.00 3FGM). Junior forward Carla Brito holds a team-best 7.1 rebound average. (7th in the American). Graduate guard Mama Dembele is USF’s top assister with 5.1 apg. (72 total assists ranked 22nd nationally). In the latest NCAA Nitty Gritties Report, South Florida’s NET SOS was ranked 4th and 64 in the NET.

Sammie Puisis and Vittoria Blasigh are shooting a combined of 86.1% of USF’s made 3-pointers this season, the highest of any combined duo in DI. Against Rice, Sammie Puisis recorded her sixth career game at USF with at least 20 points and zero turnovers. That is tied for the second most by any Bulls player this century (Courtney Williams) behind Jessica Dickson (eight). Mama Dembele has 32 assists and 26 steals over her last seven games. The last USF player to have at least 30 assists and 25 steals over a seven-game span was Andrell Smith during the 2012-13 season. The Bulls have held their opponents to under 40.0 percent from the field in all eight home games this season. That is tied for their longest home streak to begin a campaign this century, along with 2020-21. In December 2024, L’or Mputu shot 63.6 percent from the field (21-for-33) and had 38 rebounds. The only other USF player this century to have at least a 60.0 field-goal percentage (min. 30 att) and 35 boards in a single December was Jessica Lawson in 2009.

The Bulls will face Charlotte on Wednesday, Jan. 1 at 7 p.m. (Family Day) and Temple on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. (Dog Adoption Awareness Game) For the annual Dog Adoption Awareness Game donation items will be accepted and distributed to shelters in need.
