Tampa, Fla. – Feb. 17, 2024 – South Florida women’s basketball (15-12, 7-7) fell 67-55 to Florida Atlantic (9-16, 4-10) on Saturday night inside the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Fla.
Redshirt junior forward Romi Levy (21 points) put up 20 or more points for the eighth time this season and for the third straight game. Senior forward Evelien Lutje Schipholt locked in her sixth double-double of the season with a season-high 20 points and 11 rebounds. Lutje Schipholt’s performance tonight catapulted her into the 1,000-point club. Redshirt senior guard Aerial Wilson dished out a game-best seven assists.
HOW THE GAME WAS DECIDED
The visiting owls closed out the game on an 11-2 run across the final three minutes of action. Florida Atlantic’s Devyn Scott had five of those points, but the run was shut down by a layup from Lutje Schipholt with 36 seconds to play for the final basket of the contest.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
- Florida Atlantic defeated the Bulls for the first time since 2001, but South Florida still holds a slight 10-8 all-time advantage.
- Lutje Schipholt (20 points) joined the 1,000-point club.
- Wilson’s seven assists (469 Career Assists) shuffled her past Leslie Vorpahl (Tulane, 2013-17) into the eighth spot on the AAC all-time career total assists list.
- Florida Atlantic led in points off turnovers (15-12), paint points (38-24), and bench points (17-10).
- South Florida led in second-chance points (12-9) and fast break points (10-5).

South Florida women’s basketball recorded its 11th 20-win season during the 2022-23 campaign. USF has made 18 postseason tournament appearances and had nine NCAA Tournament berths in head coach Jose Fernandez’s 23 seasons.
