The 11 Bulls equal the program’s most named to the team since USF joined The American in 2013-14.
TAMPA (July 30, 2020) – The University of South Florida women’s basketball team placed a record-tying 11 student-athletes on the 2019-20 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, the league announced on Thursday. The players recognized equal the 11 who earned the honor following the 2016-17 academic year.

Maria Alvarez (Bal Harbour, Fla.), Cristina Bermejo (Sant Just Desvern, Spain), Kristyna Brabencova (Brno, Czech Republic), Beatriz Jordao (Pombal, Portugal), Sydni Harvey (Nashville. Tenn.), Tamara Henshaw (Palm Coast, Fla.), Mihaela Lazic (Slavonski Brod, Croatia), Enna, Pehadzic (Horsens, Denmark), Elisa Pinzan (Murano, Italy), Silvia Serrat (Banyoles, Spain) and Elena Tsineke (Thessaloniki, Greece) helped make up a department record 237 student-athletes named to the All-Academic Team.
The 237 Bulls honored across AAC-sponsored sports helped USF shatter its previous record since entering The American, which stood at 214 student-athletes honored in 2015-16. This marks the third straight academic year the Bulls have had more than 200 honorees and the fourth time USF has accomplished the feat since 2015-16.
At the end of 2019-20, the women’s basketball team set a program record term grade-point average, posting a 3.60 GPA, its fifth straight of earning over a 3.0. In addition, 12 women’s basketball student-athletes were named to USF Athletics Honor Roll.

USF notched its ninth consecutive 19-win season and was poised for its ninth straight postseason appearance in 2019-20 before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the end of the college basketball season. The Bulls celebrated two all-conference honorees in Elena Tsineke and Elisa Pinzan. Tsineke was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year, in addition to The American All-Freshman Team and Third Team All-Conference; while Pinzan was named a Third Team All-Conference selection.
USF has made 15 postseason tournament appearances and had six NCAA Tournament berths in head coach Jose Fernandez’s 20 seasons. The all-time winningest coach in program history, Fernandez has guided USF to nine 20-win seasons, two WNIT final four appearances, the 2009 WNIT championship and won more than 350 games.
