Tampa, Fla., March. 9, 2024 – Fifth-seeded South Florida women’s basketball (18-13) heads to Fort Worth, Texas for the 2024 American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Championships. With the first-round bye, the Bulls will face the winner of the 12-seed Florida Atlantic and 13-seed Wichita State game on Sunday, Mar. 10 at 3 p.m. ET/2 p.m. CT.

SETTING THE STAGE

A lot is on the line for the Bulls in their 11th AAC Tournament. Not only is South on the prowl for its second ever AAC Championship. In USF’s quest to win the championship, it would also translate to their 10th potential NCAA Tournament and would be their second ever via an Automatic bid.

AAC CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY

In the 10-year history of the AAC Tournament, South Florida holds a record of 17-9. The Bulls captured the AAC Tournament title in 2020-21 while also claiming the regular season title.

THE SOUTH FLORIDA-WICHITA SERIES

The meeting will be the 12th all-time pairing between the two programs, which extends back to the 1982-83 season. South Florida holds a 8-3 all-time advantage in the series. The last meeting was a 79-57 Bulls win earlier this season.

THE SOUTH FLORIDA-FLORIDA ATLANTIC SERIES

The pairing will be the 19th all-time pairing between the two programs, which extends back to the 1984-85 season. South Florida holds a 10-8 all-time advantage in the series. The last meeting the Owls defeated the Bulls, 67-55, earlier this season.

LAST TIME OUT

South Florida swept SMU in overtime, 68-61, on Tuesday night in Dallas. Senior forward Evelien Lutje Schipholt collared a 15 point and 10 rebound double-double, her eighth double-double of the season. Redshirt junior Romi Levy added 15 points, nine rebounds, a career-best four blocks and four assists, marking her 22nd double-digit performance of the season. Redshirt senior guard Aerial Wilson (nine points) dished out a game-high five assists and combined with sophomore forward Daniela Gonzalez (nine points) combined for 18 points.

BULL LEADERS

Redshirt junior forward Romi Levy leads South Florida with a 14.9 scoring average (11th in The American). Levy has earned AAC Newcomer of the Year honors. Freshman guard Vittoria Blasigh (13.4 ppg.) is the second Bull averaging double-digit points. Blasigh (72 3PM) is fourth among NCAA Freshman in total 3-pointers made and was tabbed the AAC Freshman of the Year. Senior forward Evelien Lutje Schipholt leads on the glass with 8.1 rebounds per contest, which ranks 8th in the American. Redshirt senior guard Aerial Wilson dishes out a team-best 4.6 assists per contest. Wilson’s 143 total assists ranks 2nd in the American. Wilson (490 career assists) has claimed sole possession of 7th place on the AAC Career Assist Index.

AAC BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP TICKETS

For the fourth consecutive year, The American’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships will be contested at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. Both Championships expand to 14 teams this season with The Women’s Championship running March 9-13. Ticket packages for the Women’s Championship will be $85 per package.
