USF WBB: Bulls Fall To Commodores, 62-49

Tampa, Fla. – Nov. 14, 2024 – South Florida women’s basketball (2-2) fell to Vanderbilt (3-0), 62-49, on Thursday night in the Yuengling Center.

Sophomore guard Vittoria Blasigh led the Bulls with a season-best 15 points and a team-high three 3-pointers. Graduate guard Mama Dembele dished out five assists and junior forward Carla Brito led USF on the glass, grabbing nine boards.

The Commodores were paced by sophomore forward Khamil Pierre’s (17 points, 10 rebounds)  double-double performance. Freshman guard Mikayla Blakes (16 points) and sophomore guard Madison Greene (15 points) rounded out the visitors who finished the night in double-digit points.

HOW THE GAME WAS DECIDED

Vanderbilt closed out the second stanza on a 10-4 scoring run, which gave the visitors an eight-point lead, 34-26 going into the break. Across the third quarter, the Commodores outscored the Bulls 20-11, leaving the score 54-37 in favor of Vanderbilt with 10 minutes to play. In the final three minutes of action, the Bulls strung together 10 unanswered points, but it wasn’t enough as USF fell, 62-49.

NOTABLE NUMBERS

  • Dembele has recorded 3+ assists in 33 straight games, the second-longest active streak in DI, behind Drake’s Katie Dinnebier (47 games).
  • Blasigh led the Bulls with a season-best 15 points and a team-high three 3-pointers
  • Graduate forward Ines Piper (304 career rebounds) surpassed the  300 rebound threshold with five boards on the night.
  • The Bulls are now 60-5 in nonconference home games since the 2014-15 season.
  • Brito led USF on the glass, grabbing nine boards.

UP NEXT

South Florida hosts UTRGV on Sunday, Nov. 17 in the Yuengling Center. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. and the game will stream live on ESPN+.
