Tampa, Fla. Dec. 30, 2023 – Freshman guard Vittoria Blasigh put up 16 points and netted three of four total 3-pointers in the final frame in South Florida women’s basketball’s (9-5, 1-0) 70-61 win against SMU (6-6, 0-1) in AAC opening action on Saturday night at the Yuengling Center in Tampa Fla.
Senior forward Evelien Lutje Schipholt added an impressive 14 points, and eight rebounds, to go along with two assists, and a pair of steals. Redshirt junior forward Romi Levy and sophomore wing Carla Brito evenly split 16 points. Brito crashed the glass with 11 boards as well. Redshirt senior guard Aerial Wilson dished out seven assists and now has 406 on her career.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
- South Florida’s record in AAC openers improved to 11-1 and the Bulls have now won 11 consecutive conference lid lifters.
- Head Coach Jose Fernandez’s record in conference openers lifted to 15-9.
- USF is now winners of five straight against SMU and the Bulls are 17-1 in the all-time series with the Mustangs.
- Levy is one point shy of 400 career points.
- Blasigh has hit double-figure points in nine games this season and is currently on a two-game hot streak.
- Lutje Schipholt has logged double-digit points in four games this campaign.
- Brito has had seven 10-plus rebound games this year and has grabbed 11 boards in back-to-back contests.
