USF WBB: Blasigh Earns Sixth AAC Freshman Of The Week Honor

Tampa, Fla. Feb. 26, 2024 – South Florida women’s basketball freshman guard Vittoria Blasigh has earned American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week honors for the sixth time this season, announced by the league office on Monday. Redshirt junior forward Romi Levy was selected to the AAC Honor Roll for the second straight week.

Blasigh now has the third most Freshman of the Week honors in the history of the AAC. The Udine, Italy native trails Amiyra Joiner (East Carolina, 2022-23, 8X), Temira Poindexter (Tulsa, 2021-22, 8X), and JerKaila Jordan (Tulane, 2020-21, 7X).

This week Blasigh averaged 13.0 ppg., 5.0 rpg., 3.0 apg., and 1.0 spg. Blasigh had 20 points, five assists, three rebounds, and knocked down four 3-pointers in the win at East Carolina on Wednesday. She then added six points and seven rebounds in the loss at Tulsa on Sunday.

The freshman guard is ranked 22nd nationally with 71 total 3-pointers made this season and leads all freshmen in the NCAA. Blasigh’s 71 3-pointers is now tied in 11th place with Shannon Layne (1999-00) on the program’s single-season 3-pointers made ledger.

This week Levy averaged 19.5 ppg., 6.5 rpg., 1.0 bpg., 4.0 apg. Levy led the Bulls to a regular season sweep against East Carolina on Wednesday with 22 points, 6 assists, and four rebounds. In the loss at Tulsa on Sunday, Levy had 17 points and 9 rebounds (8 defensive). The Herzliya, Israel native has earned AAC Honor Roll recognition in back-to-back weeks and five times this season.

AAC BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP TICKETS

For the fourth consecutive year, The American’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships will be contested at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. Both Championships expand to 14 teams this season with the Women’s Championship running March 9-13. Ticket packages for the Women’s Championship will be $85 per package.
