South Florida improves to 4-1 in conference play.
TAMPA, September 30, 2023 – The University of South Florida volleyball team (10-6, 4-1 AAC) is off to its best conference start since joining the American Athletic Conference with a 3-0 sweep over the University of Alabama-Birmingham Blazers (2-15, 0-5 AAC) on Saturday afternoon in the Yuengling Center.
The Bulls defeated the Blazers with scores of 25-23, 25-13, and 25-13.
Buse Hazan (Istanbul, Turkey) led the match with 17 kills, her 10th time with double-digit kills this season. Maria Clara Andrade (Sao Paulo, Brazil) recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 13 digs.
The Bulls fell behind the Blazers early in the match but battled back to tie the set at 23. South Florida closed it out with a block from Andrade and Ragan Kinard (Lynn Haven) and a Blazer error.
South Florida cruised through the second set, holding UAB to a .120 hitting percentage. They held UAB to only eight points.
The Bulls continued to cruise through the match. A late 6-0 run gave them the dominant 21-12 lead. The Green and Gold closed out the match with a 4-0 run and completed the weekend sweep.

- Caroline Dykes (Flower Mound, Texas) finished the match with 31 assists.
- The Bulls served five aces today, bringing their season total to 115.

Head coach Jolene Shepardson enters her fourth season at the helm of her alma mater in 2023. Named head coach on Jan. 8, 2020, Shepardson led the Bulls’ program to its last conference championship and NCAA tournament appearance as a student-athlete in 2002.
