USF Volleyball: Hazan Leads Volleyball in Sweep Over Memphis

South Florida extends its win streak to five matches.    

MEMPHIS, Tenn., September 23, 2023 – Buse Hazan (Istanbul, Turkey) set a new career-high of 21 kills in the University of South Florida’s (8-5, 2-0 AAC) 3-0 sweep over the Memphis Tigers (4-10, 0-2 AAC) on Saturday afternoon to keep the Bulls undefeated in conference play.  

The Bulls won with scores of 25-21, 25-17, and 25-19.  

Hazan finished the match with a .368 hitting percentage on 38 total attacks with only seven errors. She also had the only solo block for the Bulls. Freshman Miya Thomas (Gainesville) earned her second collegiate start. She led the team with 13 digs. Marta Cvitkovic (Rijeka, Croatia) led the team with three service aces.  

Memphis jumped out to a 13-9 lead over South Florida in the first set. The Bulls battled their way back to take the two-point lead. USF closed out the set with a 6-3 run.  

South Florida took a 15-12 lead over Memphis after tying five times prior. The Bulls kept the momentum and cruised to a 25-17 win in set two.  

Memphis jumped out to a 10-6 lead over South Florida in the third set. After a Bull’s timeout, they answered with a 9-1 run to take the lead back. The Green and Gold kept the momentum and completed the sweep over Memphis.  

NOTABLES 

  • Caroline Dykes (Flower Mound, Texas) recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 39 assists and 10 digs.  
  • As a team, the Bulls finished with eight service aces, bringing their season total to 100.  
  • The five-match win streak is the second longest since 2018 when the Bulls won seven straight.

The Bulls will close the weekend out with a rematch against Memphis tomorrow at 2 p.m. (E.T.).
