TAMPA (Feb. 17, 2020) – The USF baseball team heads to Tallahassee for midweek action, taking on Florida A&M Monday afternoon and No. 12 Florida State Tuesday night.
Head coach Billy Mohl’s Bulls (2-1) look to keep building momentum from their series win against Marist this past weekend. The Bulls took the last two games of the series after falling in extra innings against Marist in the season opener on Feb. 14.
The Bulls pitching staff made the difference in the series, recording 47 strikeouts. The starting rotation of Collin Sullivan (Raldoph, Mass.), Jack Jasiak (Spring Hill, Fla.) and Carson Ragsdale (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) combined for 27 strikeouts through 17 innings.
Ragsdale was solid in his first start on the mound since returning from Tommy John surgery. The redshirt junior right-hander held the Red Foxes scoreless through five frames before allowing one run and finished with 10 strikeouts in six innings of USF’s 4-2 victory on Feb. 16.
Baron Stuart (Okeechobee, Fla.) will get the call to open up midweek play on the mound for the Bulls against Florida A&M. The junior right-hander saw action Friday night, recording two strikeouts and allowing one hit through two innings of work.
The Matchups
The Bulls head to Moores-Kittle Field holding a 47-4 record over FAMU. USF is currently 11-0 against Florida A&M in Tallahassee.
No. 12 Florida State heads into Tuesday’s game currently leading the all-time series between the two programs. The Bulls are 16-71 against the Seminoles, and are 5-44 in Tallahassee.
Know the Foes
· The Rattlers will open the 2020 season against the Bulls on Monday afternoon. Florida A&M finished the 2019 season at 22-23.
· On the hill for the Rattlers will be senior right-handed pitcher Kyle Coleman. Coleman finished last season with a 3.52 ERA through 99.2 innings. Coleman led the Rattlers in strikeouts with 81 and held opponents to a .271 average.
· No. 12 Florida State heads into the Tuesday matchup against the Bulls at 2-1. The Seminoles fell to Niagara in the first game of the season, 3-1. The Seminoles combined for a total of 35 runs in the next two days as they took the series from Niagara.
· Sophomore right-handed pitcher Jack Anderson will get the call for the midweek battle against the Bulls.

· Freshman Dontae Mitchell (St. Petersburg, Fla.) walked three times against Marist on Friday evening.
· Nick Gonzalez (Tampa) enters the midweek battle on a three-game hitting streak.
· The last time the Bulls beat a ranked opponent was Feb. 19, 2019 against No.5 Florida.

About USF Baseball
The University of South Florida baseball program is one of the fastest rising programs in the country. The Bulls earned their third NCAA Regional berth in the last four seasons and had six all-conference selections in 2018. Four players were selected in the 2018 MLB Draft, including the program’s fourth first rounder, pitcher Shane McClanahan. Third baseman David Villar was taken in the 11th round after being named first team all-conference and an All-American.
