USF Softball: Softball Falls to Tulsa in First Round of AAC Tournament

WICHITA, KS., May 8, 2024 –The University of South Florida softball team (34-22, 13-14 AAC) fell to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (30-22, 14-13) in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Tournament. The Bulls fell with a final score of 2-1.

Payton Dixon (Smyrna, Del.) earned her 28th start and quickly settled in. She had retired the Golden Hurricane for three straight innings. Tulsa earned its first hit in the fourth inning.

The Bulls had their first scoring opportunity in the second innings. A Golden Hurricane fielding error, single, and a sacrifice bunt put Allana Consolazio (Fort Meyers) at third. She tried to score on a wild pitch but was called out at the plate.

South Florida’s next scoring opportunity came in the fourth inning. Two singles and a hit by pitch loaded the bases, but the Bull’s next three batters were retired.

Tulsa took the 1-0 lead in the fourth inning.

Down by one run in the fifth inning, Jordyn Kadlub (Wesley Chapel) put herself in scoring position with a walk and stolen base. Alexa Galligani (White Plains, N.Y.) hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.

Tulsa extended its lead to 2-1 in the fifth inning and held it until the end.

Notables

  • Five Bulls earned a hit in the game.  
  • Dixon pitched her 12th complete game of the season.
  • She led the game with six assists.
  • Galligani had one double.
