TAMPA, Fla., March 29, 2024 – The University of South Florida softball team (24-14, 4-7 AAC) fell to the North Texas Mean Green (20-13, 9-2 AAC) on Friday night. The Bulls fell with a score of 9-5.
North Texas jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning. South Florida chipped away at North Texas’ lead in the second inning. The Bulls loaded the bases with a lead-off walk and two singles. A sacrifice fly from Kathy Garcia-Soto (Tampa) scored the Bull’s first run. Alexa Galligani (White Plains, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to cut the Mean Green’s lead to two runs, 4-2.
A walk and two singles, one from Rian Eigenmann (Millville, N.J.), brought the Bulls within one in the third inning. The Mean Green added to their lead in the fifth inning, scoring two runs.
Camille Ortiz-Martinez (Salinas, Puerto Rico) hit her third home of the season in the sixth inning. It was a two-run home run to make it a 9-5 game in North Texas’ favor.
Belle Sardja (Gibsonton) earned her 17th start of the season. She pitched 4.1 innings and struck out two batters. Julia Apostolakos (Beachwood, N.J.) made her 15th appearance of her career. Alex Wright (Auburndale) made her fifth career appearance.
