Corrick sits just five strikeouts away from breaking Nevins’ career mark
TAMPA, Fla., March 20, 2022 – University of South Florida senior pitcher Georgina Corrick struck out eight in USF’s 8-0 win over Canisius, moving just five strikeouts away from USF’s career record of 1,103 set by Sara Nevins. The Bulls would later fall to St. Thomas in game two of the doubleheader, 10-4.
USF’s offense flexed its power-hitting abilities in game one. The Bulls hit three home runs, including one off the bat of Vivian Ponn (Fort Myers, Fla.) and two from Josie Foreman (West Palm Beach, Fla.). Ponn also added a pair of doubles between the two games.
Game 1 – USF 8, Canisius 0 (6)
USF’s offense was hot in game one. Ponn gave the Bulls the lead in the first inning, driving home Alexis Johns (Sarasota) with a double to center field.
South Florida added another pair of runs in the second. Foreman went opposite field for her third home run of the season to put USF ahead 2-0. Later, after Jordyn Kadlub (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) doubled to reach scoring position, Johns singled through the right side which allowed Kadlub to score.
Ponn started the Bulls offense with her second home run of the year in the third, followed three batters later by Foreman’s second home run of the day, a two-run shot to dead-center that put USF ahead 6-0.
The Bulls completed the run-rule victory in the sixth. After Allana Consolazio (Fort Myers, Fla.) scored on an error, the Bulls walked it off as Johns hit a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Emilee Hanlon (Dunkirk, N.Y.) to score.
Corrick pitched the complete-game shutout, her 12th of the year, earning her 21st win of the season.

USF took an early lead in game two. Madison Epperson (Tampa) started the team in the first, doubling home Ponn and Meghan Sheehan (Forest Hill, Md.).
St. Thomas responded in the third, plating a run on a single to make the score 2-1 in favor of USF.
In the home half of the third, Ponn continued her success at the plate with a two-run double to center that scored Sheehan and Megan Pierro (Lutz) to put USF ahead 4-1.
St. Thomas took the lead for good in the top of the fourth. The Tommies scored a run on a single, then captured a 5-4 advantage with a three-run home run to right field. They added another three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to win 10-4.
