South Florida won the series and moved to 5-4 in conference play
TAMPA, Fla., April 10, 2022 – The University of South Florida softball team (33-11, 5-4) posted a rare 2-1 loss in a pitching duel on Sunday afternoon to close out the series against Wichita State (21-13, 4-2).
Meghan Sheehan (Forest Hill, Md.) finished the day with two doubles and an RBI.
The Bulls got on the board early. Johns walked to lead off the game then stole second. Sheehan tallied her 21st RBI of the season by driving Alexis Johns (Sarasota, Fla.) home with a double later in the inning.
The Shockers tied it up in the fourth, as a solo home run from Jessica Garcia evened the game at 1-1.
Wichita State took the lead for good with another solo homer in the sixth off the bat of Zoe Jones to win 2-1.
Notables
- Corrick hit 300 strikeouts in a season for the second time in her career during the game. She now has 303 this campaign.
- Johns has reached base in 12 straight games.
- Johns, who wears number 42, has stolen 42 bases this season. She’s now stolen 87 in her career and 64 at USF.
