USF MSOC: Men’s Soccer Tops Anteaters, 2-1

TAMPA, FLA., Sept. 9, 2024 – South Florida men’s soccer (2-1-3) secured its second victory of the season, 2-1, against UC Irvine (1-3-1) on Monday night at Corbett Stadium.

In the opening stanza, Gunnar Studenhofft quickly put the Bulls on the board within the first five minutes. The Anteaters responded 12 minutes later with an unassisted goal by Agaton Pourshahidi to tie the game, 1-1. South Florida had a handful of scoring chances but couldn’t capitalize, finishing the first half with nine shots which kept it tied at the break.

Coming out of the midway point, Jemone Barclay sent a cross from a corner kick that would set up a pass to Issah Hamidu and then to Marcelo Mondragon for a header score to put USF ahead, 2-1. UC Irvine would have a late push late in the final minute but the Bulls held on for the victory.

HEAD COACH BUTEHORN SAID

“The goal that Marcelo and Issah set up was really good. The corner was good,” said Head Coach Bob Butehorn. “We worked on it (in practice) and it was a good time for us to get a good goal.”
