USF Men’s Golf Tied for the Lead After Two Rounds of the AAC Championship

The Bulls paced by Jake Peacock who is tied for the individual lead at 135 (-5).

BELLEAIR, Fla., April 20, 2024 – The University of South Florida men’s golf team stands in a tie for the lead through 36 holes of the American Athletic Conference Championship. Junior Jake Peacock is tied for the individual lead at 135 (-5) following a 66 (-4), which ties his low round as a Bull.

The 48th-ranked Bulls, who had three players shoot under par in the second round, have two other players in the top 10. Senior Sam Nicholson and graduate student Brock Healy are tied for sixth place at 138 (-2).

In the second round, USF shot 271 (-9), the low round of the tournament, to move up three spots. As a team, the Bulls made 20 birdies in the second round and improved 10 shots from the first round. The Bulls are at 552 (-8) heading into Sunday’s final round. Through the first two rounds, USF leads the field with 127 pars, is second in par four scoring at 4.05 (+6), and in par three scoring at 3.03 (+1).

Peacock (Milton, Ga), a member 2022-23 AAC Men’s Golf All-Conference team, who has a win, and four top-10 finishes this season, moved up six spots on the leaderboard in the second round. He opened with a 69 (-1), and improved three shots in the second round, to a 66 (-4), a round in which he carded five birdies, offset by one bogey.

Healey (Norcross, Ga.) made a big jump in the second round as he shot up 25 spots on the leaderboard after shooting 66 (-4), which ties his second-best round as a Bull. He bettered his first round of 72 (+2) by six shots. Healey combined a 34 (-1) on the front nine with a back nine 32 (-3), making four birdies on the back.

Nicholson (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) has shot par or better in the first two rounds. After an opening round 70 (E), he shot 68 (-2) in the second round to move up nine spots. Nicholson made three birdies on the front nine, shooting 33 (-2), and two on the back nine for a 35 (E).

Junior Shubham Jaglan (Jr., Delhi, India) contributed to the Bulls’ other scoring round with a 71 (+1) in the second round. Jaglan, who opened with an even-par 70, is tied for 19th place at 141 (+1) through the first two rounds.

Redshirt junior Cooper Smith (Tampa, Fla.) is tied for 29th place after shooting identical rounds of 72 (+2) in the first two rounds.

The Bulls are seeking their sixth American Athletic Conference championship in the first 10 years of the tournament. South Florida will tee off in the third round Sunday between 9:05 a.m. and 9:57 a.m. off the first tee. The final round can be watched on ESPN+.

About USF Men’s Golf
The USF men’s golf program has captured 17 conference titles and has seen players earn 19 All-America honors. The Bulls have won five American Athletic Conference Tournament championships in wire-to-wire fashion, winning four-consecutive from 2015-18. The Bulls have had four individual conference champions, including Albin Bergstrom in 2021, and gone on to earn nine straight NCAA Regional appearances, including a 6th place finish in NCAA Championship match-play in 2015. USF is led by Steve Bradley, who has been named American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year five times since taking over the program in 2014. The Bulls have posted 23 tournament wins under Bradley including two in the 2023-24 season, by far the most under any coach in program history.
