Albin Bergstrom paced the Bulls who were competing in their eighth straight NCAA Regional.
NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (May 19, 2021) – The USF Bulls concluded their season on Wednesday with a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Noblesville Regional played at The Sagamore Club. Sophomore Albin Bergstrom (Falsterbo, Sweden) led the Bulls at 2-over-par 218 in the program’s eighth consecutive NCAA regional appearance.
USF closed the three-day tournament with a 54-hole score of 889. The five lowest scoring teams in the 13-team field advanced to the NCAA Championship with the cut-off in Noblesville being a score of 859.
Bergstrom, the AAC individual medalist, paced his team for the sixth time in nine tournaments this spring. A unanimous All-Conference selection, Bergstrom bookended his performance at the regional with scores of even-par 72. Those two rounds raised his season total for rounds of par or better to 20 out of 27. Bergstrom tied for 31st individually in the 78-player regional field.
Luke Gifford (Boca Raton) tied for 50th at 8-over-par 224. Just as he did when helping lead the Bulls to the American Championship in late April, the sophomore came on strong in the final round of the regional to shoot even-par 72 – including an eagle on the par-5 14th hole (578 yards). Gifford was also a unanimous All-Conference selection this season.
Teammate Sam Nicholson (Atlantic Beach) shot 1-over-par 73 in the opening round on Monday and led USF with a 2-under-par 70 on Tuesday to climb just outside the top 10 after round two. The freshman carded a round of 81 in Wednesday’s finale to come in at 8-over-par 224 and also tie for 50th individually.
Senior Kyle Flexsenhar (Lake Mary) and freshman Runchanapong Youprayong (Bangkok, Thailand) tied for 59th with 54-hole scores of 230. Each player carded a total of eight birdies over the course of three rounds, second only to Bergstrom’s 11.
USF closes its 2021 campaign having recorded a top-10 finish in seven of its nine tournaments, highlighted by the Bulls claiming the American Athletic Conference Championship for the fifth time in the past six seasons under the direction of head coach Steve Bradley who was named the AAC Coach of the Year for the fifth time.
