USF Baseball Storms Back Late to Defeat FAU

The Bulls stay in second place in the standings.

BOCA RATON, May 10, 2025– The University of South Florida Bulls (27-21, 14-9 American) completed the dramatic comeback win over the Florida Atlantic Owls (32-18, 12-11 American) to clinch the series in Boca Raton on Saturday night. The Bulls won with a final score of 9-4.

South Florida is still second in the AAC standings, two games ahead of Florida Atlantic. Charlotte is tied with the Bulls for second place. The Bulls have clinched a spot in the 2025 AAC Conference Tournament.

After jumping out to a 2–0 lead in the first two innings, highlighted by an RBI double from Marcus Brodil, USF saw its advantage slip away as FAU pushed across four runs, aided by defensive miscues and timely hitting.

The Bulls remained resilient. In the eighth, Brodil and Matt Rose delivered key hits to pull South Florida even. Then in the ninth, USF capitalized on FAU’s shaky defense, as Carlos Jacome’s bunt single and a pair of throwing errors brought home the go-ahead runs. Brodil followed with his third hit and second RBI of the game, and the Bulls tacked on more with sacrifice flies from Rose and Lance Trippel to cap a five-run inning.

On the mound, USF’s bullpen was clutch. Corey Kling and Brandon Keyster combined for six solid innings in relief, while Adan Longoria (3-0) earned the win with a scoreless 1.1-inning outing.

Brodil finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a double. Rose added two hits and two RBIs, and Trippel contributed both at the plate and behind it, reaching base twice, stealing a base, and driving in a run.

With this win, USF strengthens its position in the AAC standings as the regular season winds down.
