TAMPA, APRIL 14, 2025 – The University of South Florida baseball team (20-13, 8-4 AAC) will finish a four-game road stand with the No. 7 Florida State Seminoles (28-7, 11-4 ACC) on Tuesday night at Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium. The first pitch between the two clubs is set for 6 p.m. and will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
After the first four conference weekends, the Bulls are tied for second place with Charlotte. Both clubs are two games behind UTSA (10-2) and have a one-game lead on Tulane (7-5) and East Carolina (7-5).
Setting The Stage:
The Bulls are coming off a series loss to the Rice Owls in Houston this past weekend. OF Ryan Pruitt started in all four games last week. He posted a .438 average, with two doubles and a team-leading four RBI. LHP Corey Braun pitched seven innings, striking out three and only allowing one walk.
In Friday’s 14-3 win, the Bulls blasted four home runs, the second-most in the conference in a conference game. The Bull’s five home runs at UAB on March 23 are the most.
Series History:
The Bulls and Seminoles have met 91 times, the most recent in Tampa on February 18, 2025. Florida State took the meeting earlier this season, 6-2. Florida State leads the all-time series 74-17. In Tallahassee, FSU has a 47-5 series lead over South Florida.
Note-A-Bull:
- LHP Corey Braun has posted a 2.39 overall ERA and a 1.47 conference ERA. His overall ERA leads the AAC. He is second in conference ERA, behind Charlotte’s Gillespie Blake (0.90).
- OF Marcus Brodil extended his on-base streak to 15 games, a season-high and a team-high. His previous longest was 14 games, set in the first 14 games of the season.
- 1B Sebastian Greico has hit 11 home runs this season. He is tied for first place in the conference with UTSA’s Drew Detlfsen. He also has a season-slugging percentage of .629%. He ranks third in the AAC.
- INF Matt Rose has recorded a hit in seven of his last nine games. He has a multi-hit performance in four of the seven games.
- OF Jackson Mayo is one home run away from breaking into the top 10 career home run list in program history. He has hit 28 home runs in his career.
- South Florida’s team batting average of 0.290 ranks third in the conference behind UTSA (.322) and Florida Atlantic (.312).
Hannahs at the Helm:
Mitch Hannahs was named South Florida’s eighth head coach in program history on June 8, 2024, after compiling 355 wins over 11 seasons at Indiana State. The 2023 ABCA NCAA DI Midwest Region Coach of the Year guided the Sycamores to six conference titles and five NCAA Regionals, guiding ISU to a spot in the 2023 NCAA Super Regional. He takes over a USF team that went 26-29 last year and features 24 new players.
