USF Baseball: Corey Braun Goes the Distance in USF Baseball’s Shutout Win Over Tulane

Corey Braun carved his way to a two-hit complete game shutout.

TAMPA, MARCH 28, 2025 – LHP Corey Braun pitched his first complete-game shutout in the University of South Florida baseball team’s (14-9; 3-1 AAC) win over the Tulane Green Wave (17-9; 2-2 AAC) on Friday night at the USF Baseball Stadium.

The Bulls got out to an early 1-0 lead on a single to shallow right field in the first inning by INF Rafael Betancourt, who scored INF Matt Rose.

Bradke Lohry singled to left field in the 4th to score Betancourt and extend USF’s lead to 2-0. Sebastian Greico led off the 6th with a single to right field. Lohry would draw a walk, which set up a Lance Trippel RBI single to add to the Bulls’ lead, 3-0.

Braun was sensational in his outing. He allowed no runs and no base hits against the Green Wave bats in the first four innings alone. Braun wrapped up the game with three strikeouts in his final four batters. Braun finished the night with nine innings, only allowing two hits and no runs.

  • Rafael Betancourt collected his third multi-hit performance in four games, the fifth of the season.
  • Rafael Betancourt’s base hit in the 4th extended his hitting streak to seven games, the highest amongst the team.
  • It is the first shutout since February 24th, 2024, in Game 1 against Marist, 10-0.
  • Corey Braun has thrown five or more strikeouts in all his starts this season.

  • Corey Braun collected his first career complete-game shutout, only allowing two hits across the nine innings.
  • It is the first complete game shutout by a USF pitcher since April 25, 2021, when Collin Sullivan did it in seven innings versus Memphis.
  • It is the first nine-inning complete-game shutout since Collin Sullivan did it in a 2-0 win against Wichita State on May 17, 2019.
  • It is the first complete game by USF pitcher since Hunter Mink’s 11-2 win in Game 1 against Charlotte.
  • It is the first USF shutout of a conference opponent since March 31, 2023, versus UCF.
  • Tonight’s 3-0 win marked the first home shutout since May 21st, 2021, versus No. 10 ECU, 7-0.
