USF Baseball Claims Conference Series Against UAB in Home Run Derby Fashion

The Bulls set a season-high of five home runs in a game.

BIRMINGHAM, AL., MARCH 23, 2025 – The University of South Florida baseball team (13-9; 2-1 AAC) defeated the UAB Blazers (15-9; 1-2 AAC) with a season-high of five home runs to take the series. The Bulls won with a final of 9-7.

Ryan Pruitt started the game similarly, with a first-pitch lead-off home run. It’s his third lead-off home run in eight days.

UAB took the lead in the bottom half of the opening frame with a two-RBI single.

South Florida regained the lead in the fourth inning. Rafael Betancourt singled to start the inning. Bradke Lohry hit his first home run in the Green and Gold, giving the Bulls the 3-2 lead.

The Bulls plated five runs in the sixth inning. Lorhy started the inning with his second home run of the day. Marcus Brodil earned a walk, followed by a double from Lance Trippel. Carlos Jacome joined the home run derby with his first home run of the season, giving the Bulls a 7-3 lead. Sebastian Greico batted in the fifth run of the inning with an RBI fielder’s choice.

The Blazers added five runs over the next three innings to cut the Bulls lead to one. Lance Trippel added an insurance run for South Florida in the top of the ninth with a solo shot over the center field wall.

RHP Jack Nedrow pitched 6.0 innings out of the bullpen, holding the Blazers to two runs on four hits. He struck out a season-high six batters. RHP Jorge DeCardenas pitched the final three innings. He earned his first save of the season.

  • Stewart Puckett went 4-for-4 at the plate. It’s the third time this season a player has had four hits in a game.
  • Bradke Lohry’s two home runs are the first time since Stewart Puckett had two against Stetson on April 2, 2024. 
  • Jack Nedrow set a season-high of six strikeouts.
