USF Baseball: Boser hits for cycle, Bulls outlasts Jacksonville, 16-12

Bobby Boser became the first Bulls to hit for the cycle in at least 20 years.

JACKSONVILLE (March 6, 2024) – A day after recording a career-high seven RBI, Bobby Boser (Wesley Chapel) drove in six and hit for the cycle as the University of South Florida Bulls (7-5) out-slugged the Jacksonville University Dolphins (5-7) on Wednesday afternoon, 16-12. Boser is the first Bull to hit for the cycle in at least 20 years.

Over the course of two high-scoring wins for South Florida over UNF on Tuesday and Jacksonville on Wednesday, Boser combined to go 6-for-10 with a double, triple, three home runs and 13 RBI.

“It was really good to see our guys compete, the offense bounce back, and the team win games in different ways the past two days,” said head coach Billy Mohl. “We still have work to do, but it’s a step in the right direction. Good teams must win on the road.”

Wednesday’s back-and-forth affair with the Dolphins featured five lead changes and saw the Bulls plate six runs in the ninth inning after entering the final frame trailing, 11-10. Nine of South Florida’s runs in the game were scored compliments of two-out hits.

The Bulls were held hitless in the seventh and eighth innings before the six-run barrage in the ninth. Joaquin Monque (Weston) was hit by a pitch with one out to begin the rally. Matt Rose (Clearwater) followed with a walk and Ben Rozenblum (Coral Springs), who entered as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning, drove in the tying run with a single.

Drew Brutcher (Lakeland) was next to the plate and was awarded an intentional walk to load the bases. Jackson Mayo (St. John’s) followed with a go-ahead RBI-single. Two batters later, with two outs, Boser unloaded on a three-run blast to complete his cycle.

Riley Skeen (Pompano Beach) earned the win on the mound for USF after tossing a scoreless ninth inning to keep the game within reach for the offense. Kyle Scrape (Tampa) also delivered a scoreless relief outing, striking out three and allowing just one hit over 1.2 IP.
