242 student-athletes earn Athletics Honor Roll Recognition
156 student-athletes, over 68 percent, earn over a 3.0 cumulative GPA;
14 of 17 programs earned a spring GPA over 3.0;
15 programs posted a cumulative team GPA over 3.0
TAMPA, JUNE 9, 2022 – University of South Florida student-athletes have extended USF Athletics’ record streak of an annual department grade-point averages over 3.0 to 15 consecutive semesters and more than seven years (since spring of 2015) after the recently completed 2022 spring term.
Following back-to-back semesters with a record number of Athletics Honor Roll recipients, including 289 last fall, USF saw 242 student-athletes earn the recognition following the spring semester.
Following the compilation of spring grades, USF saw 14 of 17 programs earn a 3.0 team GPA in the spring term and 15 programs log a cumulative team GPA better than a 3.0. The Bulls’ overall department GPA across nearly 500 student-athletes for the 2022 spring academic semester came in at 3.08 and the cumulative GPA of all USF student-athletes stood at 3.19.
Over 68 percent of USF student-athletes earned a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher following the 2022 spring term, while 156 had over a 3.5 and 11 maintained a 4.0.
USF’s men’s programs averaged a 3.02 cumulative GPA, while the women’s programs posted a 3.43 cumulative GPA. USF celebrated 87 student-athletes that earned their degree in the fall or spring term, making more than 500 to have done so since 2016-17.
“Our mission to graduate student-athletes and support their achievement in the classroom remains at the forefront and I am very proud of their continued strong performance,” Vice President of Athletics Michael Kelly said. “USF student-athletes continue to meet a high standard in the classroom and show a commitment and work ethic that is greatly supported by our talented academics staff, which provides the guidance to ensure our student-athletes achieve their goals.”
Head coach Jeff Scott’s football program contributed to the Honor Roll recipients with 37 in the spring semester, following 45 recipients in the fall. Close behind in the spring were women’s track and field/cross country (32), softball (25), sailing (21), men’ soccer (20), baseball (19), women’s soccer (17), men’s track and field/cross country (16), volleyball (11) and women’s basketball (10) among the teams with 10 or more.
The women’s golf program, led by head coach Erika Brennan, led all teams with a 3.83 spring term GPA, this after also leading with a 3.86 fall term GPA. Women’s golf also led all programs with a 3.80 cumulative GPA. Meanwhile the men’s golf program, led by head coach Steve Bradley and coming off is fourth-ever NCAA Championship berth, led all men’s programs with a 3.55 spring term GPA after also leading men’s teams in the fall with a 3.65 term GPA.
USF also earned an 85 percent Graduation Success Rate in the fall, eclipsing 82 percent for the eighth straight year, and had a record five teams earn a perfect 100 percent GSR when the NCAA released the most recent data.

USF Athletics currently sponsors 19 varsity men’s and women’s teams that compete in 11 different sports, 18 at the NCAA Division I level in the American Athletic Conference, which will expand to 21 teams with the recently announced additions of women’s lacrosse (2023-24) and women’s beach volleyball (2024-25). The Bulls’ athletic program began in 1965 and completed its 55th season in 2020-21. Nearly 450 student-athletes train and compete in the athletic district located on the east end of the campus in Tampa, Fla. The Bulls have claimed 26 American Athletic Conference team titles since joining the conference in 2013, including seven trophies in the 2021 calendar year, and own 136 conference titles in department history. The Bulls have posted a combined annual grade-point average over 3.0 for more than seven straight years and have posted a program-record 15 straight semesters with a combined GPA over 3.0 as of the spring of 2022. USF has had over 500 student-athletes earn their degree since 2016-17.
