247 student-athletes earn Athletics Honor Roll Recognition;
16 of 17 programs earned a fall GPA over 3.0;
302 student-athletes, over 68 percent, earn over a 3.0 cumulative GPA
TAMPA, FEB. 7, 2023 – University of South Florida student-athletes extended USF Athletics’ record streak of department grade-point averages over 3.0 to 16 consecutive semesters and eight years (since the spring of 2015) after the recently completed 2022 fall term.
USF saw 247 student-athletes earn Athletics Honor Roll recognition following the fall semester and 16 of 17 programs post a semester GPA over 3.0, as USF Athletics’ overall GPA for nearly 500 student-athletes for the fall term checked in at 3.12.
USF also saw 16 of 17 programs maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and the cumulative GPA for Athletics held firm at 3.19.
Over 68 percent of USF student-athletes earned a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher following the 2022 fall term, while 169 had over a 3.5 and 38 maintained a 4.0.
USF’s men’s programs averaged a 3.05 cumulative GPA, while the women’s programs posted a 3.41 cumulative GPA. USF celebrated 19 student-athletes that earned their degree in the fall, making nearly 550 to have done so since 2016-17.
“Graduating student-athletes and supporting their achievement in the classroom remains at the core of our mission and I am very proud of our Bulls’ continued strong performance,” Vice President of Athletics Michael Kelly said. “USF student-athletes show a commitment to academics and work ethic that is strongly supported by our talented academics staff and Bulls continue to meet a high standard in the classroom.”
The football program contributed to the Honor Roll recipients with 41 in the fall semester. Close behind in the fall were women’s track and field/cross country (37), baseball (27), women’s soccer (27), softball (25), sailing (23), men’s track and field/cross country (19), men’s soccer (16) and volleyball (15) among the teams with 10 or more honorees.
The women’s golf program, led by head coach Erika Brennan, led all teams with a 3.58 fall term GPA while boasting eight members of the Honor Roll. Women’s tennis, led by head coach Cristina Moros, led all programs with a 3.59 cumulative GPA and had eight Honor Roll members in the fall. Meanwhile, the men’s tennis program, led by head coach Ashley Fisher, led all programs with a 3.69 fall term GPA and boasted six Honor Roll members. Men’s cross country, led by head coach Erik Jenkins, tied men’s tennis for the highest men’s cumulative GPA with a 3.56.

USF Athletics currently sponsors 19 varsity men’s and women’s teams that compete in 11 different sports, 18 at the NCAA Division I level in the American Athletic Conference, which will expand to 21 teams with the recently announced additions of women’s lacrosse (2024-25) and women’s beach volleyball. The Bulls’ athletic program began in 1965 and is in its 57th season in 2022-23. Nearly 450 student-athletes train and compete in the athletic district located on the east end of the campus in Tampa, Fla. The Bulls have claimed 26 American Athletic Conference team titles since joining the conference in 2013, including seven trophies in the 2021 calendar year, and own 140 conference titles claimed in 15 sports in department history, led by 20 each for men’s tennis and men’s soccer. USF has claimed 74 men’s conference championships and 64 women’s titles, led by 14 in women’s tennis and 12 in volleyball. The Bulls have posted a combined annual grade-point average over 3.0 for more than eight straight years and have posted a program record of 16 straight semesters with a combined GPA over 3.0 as of the fall of 2022. USF has had over 500 student-athletes earn their degree since 2016-17.
