UF XC: Gators tabbed No. 1 in USTFCCCA Cross Country South Region Rankings

The Gators women’s team finished 2nd in last year’s South Regional.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Gators Women’s Cross Country team was selected No. 1 in the USTFCCCA’s Preseason South Regional Rankings, the USTFCCCA announced Monday. The Gators finished second in the South Region Meet in 2023.

Florida and No. 2 Tennessee were selected as the south region’s projected automatic qualifiers for this year’s National Championship meet, mirroring last season’s results when the Vols and Gators went 1-2 respectively and went to Virginia to compete for the national title. The Gators finished fifth and the Vols sixth in the NCAA Championship meet last season.

No. 3 Alabama, No. 4 Lipscomb, and No. 5 Ole Miss were also noted as “in the hunt.”

USTFCCCA Regional Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning teams’ strength with current season results (if applicable) in determining a rank-order of squad potential. Only USTFCCCA member programs are eligible to receive a ranking. Teams with provisional status within the region may be ranked.

Regional Championships Friday is set for November 15, with the South Regional taking place in Tallahassee, Fla.

The Gators begin their 2024 Campaign on Friday, August 30 at the UCF Invitational in Orlando.
