The Southeastern Conference announced Weekly Honors for Week 8 of the 2023-24 women’s tennis season, and among those recognized is Qavia Lopez. Lopez receives her first honor as a Gator and is named SEC freshman of the week after going 3-0 over Auburn and Alabama.

Ring Tennis Complex. Lopez currently holds an 8-2 record in singles and is now 7-6 in doubles play.
No. 109 Qavia Lopez<https://floridagators.com/sports/womens-tennis/roster/qavia-lopez/16283> went undefeated in doubles play, securing two weekend victories with partner Carly Briggs<https://floridagators.com/sports/womens-tennis/roster/carly-briggs/16139>. Lopez and Briggs ignited their win streak by defeating No. 13 Auburn’s Selin Ovunc and Carolyn Ansari 6-3. The duo carried their momentum into Sunday’s contest against No. 17 Alabama’s Anne Marie Hiser and Priya Nelson grabbing a quick 6-0 win. With two victories, Lopez and Briggs played a vital part in Florida securing the double’s point in both weekend matchups.
Qavia Lopez<https://floridagators.com/sports/womens-tennis/roster/qavia-lopez/16283> also had a strong performance in the singles category starting with a tough matchup against Auburn’s Adeline Flach. In the first set, Lopez fell 6-3 but immediately bounced back to take the second set 6-3 and force a third. The final set played out similarly with Lopez securing a 6-3 victory to claim the match 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

After winning the first set 6-3, Lopez held the lead over Anna Parkhomenko at 5-4 in the second set and was starting to close in on her fourth victory of the weekend before the match was called.
As a whole, Florida finished out the weekend with back-to-back ranked wins against then-ranked No. 13 Auburn and No. 17 Alabama.
