UF WTN: No. 10 Gators Start Spring Season at Freeman Memorial

The Gators are one of four ranked teams competing in the Las Vegas-based tournament. The tournament marks the start of Florida’s spring season and initiates pre-conference play which begins on Mar. 1, 2024.

LAS VEGAS, NV. – Florida women’s tennis kicks off the spring 2024 season in Las Vegas, as they are set to compete in the 21st annual Freeman Memorial Friday through Sunday, Jan. 12-14 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on the campus of UNLV.

The Gators, ranked No. 10 in the nation will square off against competitors from some of the best programs in the nation, including three additional teams ranked in the ITA top 20 – No. 6 Oklahoma State, No. 8 Pepperdine, and No. 16 UCLA.

Last Freeman Memorial outing, Sara Dahlstrom captured a singles title at the Freeman Memorial Championship to help lead the Gators in Las Vegas. The junior found herself matched up with Oklahoma State’s Ayumi Miyamoto in the championship match of the Aria Draw and opened with a strong 6-4 set. Miyamoto responded with a 6-2 second set, but Dahlstrom put her foot on the pedal to pull away in the final frame, 6-4, to secure the draw title.

The doubles tandem of Carly Briggs and Alicia Dudeney earned co-champion honors in the Luxor draw of the event. The pair was able to dominate their match against Kristina Novak and Alana Wolfberg of Oklahoma State, 6-1, for the victory.

This weekend’s action begins with doubles Friday morning followed by a round of singles. Admission to all matches is free. This year’s Freeman features five flights of singles and two flights of doubles with the schedule of play below:
