McCartney Kessler and Anna Danilina represented Florida women’s tennis at the 2025 US Open, advancing in both singles and doubles before concluding their time at Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y.- Former Gators McCartney Kessler and Anna Danilina represented Florida on one of tennis’ greatest stages, competing in the 2025 US Open main draw at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Kessler, who starred for the Gators from 2018 to 2022, earned her first-ever singles main draw victory at a Grand Slam by defeating Poland’s Magda Linette, 7-5, 7-5, in the opening round. In the second round, she faced former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic and battled through a tight first-set tiebreak before ultimately falling, 7-6(7), 6-2.
Kessler also competed in doubles alongside fellow American Peyton Stearns. The pair advanced with a 7-5, 6-4 first-round win over Sorana Cirstea (Romania) and Anna Kalinskaya (Russia) before falling in the second round to the No. 2 seeded Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini of Italy, 6-4, 6-1.
Danilina, a Gator from 2013 to 2017 and currently ranked among the world’s doubles players, reached the Round of 16 in the women’s doubles draw with partner Aleksandra Krunic of Serbia. The No. 9-seeded duo posted straight-set victories in their opening two matches, coasting past Amina Ruzic (Croatia) and Bibiane Schoofs (Netherlands), 6-1, 6-1, and then defeating Monica Niculescu (Romania) and Anastasija Sevastova (Latvia), 6-2, 6-2.
Danilina and her partner Krunic ended their run at the US Open after a hard-fought match against the No. 7 seeds, Asia Muhammad (USA) and Demi Schuurs (Netherlands). The round of 16 match was a three-set thriller, but ultimately fell in favor of Muhammad and Schuurs at 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
